Explanation

Other

Other means different, extra, or additional.

We use other before plural or uncountable nouns.

Examples:

  • I like this dress, but I want to try other dresses.

  • Some people like winter, other people prefer summer.

  • I don’t want this pen. Do you have other colors?

Don’t say others cars. Say other cars (no -s).

Others

Others is a pronoun — it means “other people” or “other things.” We don’t say a noun after it.

Examples:

  • Some students are ready; others are still waiting.

  • I finished my work, but others didn’t.

  • This book is great. I want to read others by the same author.

The Other

The other means the second one (when there are two) or the rest (when there are more).

Examples:

  • I have two pets: one cat and the other is a dog.

  • Tom is here, but the other students are at home.

  • She held a cup in one hand and her phone in the other.

Use the other with singular or plural nouns depending on the meaning.

Another

Another means one more or a different one. It comes before singular nouns.

Examples:

  • Can I have another cup of tea?

  • I don’t like this seat. Let’s sit at another table.

  • He bought one jacket and wants another one.

We write it as one word — another, not an other.
