Structure of WH-Questions
Usually the structure is:
Question word + auxiliary verb + subject + main verb
Examples:

What are they watching?

Why did she leave early?
Questions with the Verb Be
If the sentence uses am / is / are / was / were, the verb comes after the question word.
Structure: WH-word + be + subject
Examples:

Where is your phone?

When was the meeting?
Questions with Do / Does / Did
In Present Simple and Past Simple, we use do / does / did.

We often use how with other words.
